CapCut Alternatives for Captions on iPhone

If you mainly use CapCut for auto captions, these iPhone apps do the caption part, some for free and some with translation or dubbing.

CapCut is a full video editor, and many people open it for one thing: auto captions. If that's you, a smaller app may suit you better, whether you want something free, something focused on captions, or captions in another language.

CapCut's own App Store listing shows a Standard plan at $9.99 a month, Pro at $19.99 a month and a yearly plan at $89.99 (US prices, checked October 17, 2026). Below are the alternatives, with the same kind of listed prices. One of them, CapCap, is the app we make.

When to stay with CapCut

If you edit heavily, with cuts, speed changes, effects and transitions on a multi-track timeline, CapCut does a lot that caption apps don't, and switching would mean using two apps. The alternatives make the most sense when captions are the main job.

1. Edits (by Instagram)

Meta's free editor is the closest like-for-like swap. Its description lists automatic captions you can restyle, recording clips up to 10 minutes long, and 4K export with no watermark. There are no in-app purchases.

  • Pick it if: you want free captions and basic editing, mainly for Instagram.
  • Skip it if: you need translation or subtitle files. Its listing doesn't mention either.

2. CapCap

CapCap does captions and the jobs around them: word-by-word captions you can edit, styling and templates, translation into another language, dubbing, and SRT export for YouTube.

  • Pick it if: captions are the job and you want them accurate, styled and sometimes translated.
  • Skip it if: you need a full editor. CapCap trims and arranges clips, but has no speed changes or filters. It also needs iOS 18 or later.
  • Price: free plan with 3 captioned videos a month, up to 3 minutes each, with a small watermark. Pro is $14.99 a month or $59.99 a year.

3. InShot

InShot is another all-round editor, and cheaper. Its listing includes AI auto captions and bilingual subtitles.

  • Pick it if: you want a CapCut-style editor for less, with captions included.
  • Price: InShot Pro is listed at $4.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $49.99 once.

4. Captions (by Mirage)

Captions is an AI-first editor: you describe the edit and it applies it, and its listing says it makes subtitles in 91+ languages and dubs into 29.

  • Pick it if: you want AI to do most of the editing, captions included.
  • Price: Captions Basic is listed at $9.99 a month or $64.99 a year, and Captions Max at $24.99.

5. VEED Lite

VEED's quick-edit app lists auto captions in several styles, translation, and removing silences and filler words, for clips up to 10 minutes.

  • Pick it if: you talk to the camera and want pauses and "ums" cut along with the captions.
  • Price: "Mobile PRO" purchases are listed from $2.99 to $51.99, depending on the plan length.

Quick picks

  • Free: Edits.
  • Cheaper all-round editor: InShot.
  • Captions done properly, in more than one language: CapCap.
  • Let AI edit for you: Captions.
  • Cut the pauses too: VEED Lite.
