VEED vs Captions: Which Is Better for Captions on iPhone?

VEED and Captions compared for making captioned videos on an iPhone: apps, caption and translation features, and listed prices.

VEED and Captions both make AI video tools and both do captions, but they're built differently. VEED's main product is a web video editor, with two iPhone apps alongside it. Captions, made by Mirage, puts everything into one app that works as a broad AI editor. Here's how they compare if you're working on an iPhone.

All facts below come from each company's App Store listings and website, checked on October 17, 2026 (US prices). At the end there's a third option, CapCap, which is the app we make.

The apps

VEED has two iPhone apps:

  • VEED Lite, for quick edits: auto captions, translation, silence and filler-word removal, and AI talking videos, for clips up to 10 minutes.
  • VEED, the full app, released on the App Store in August 2026. It syncs projects with VEED on the web, so you can start on the phone and finish on a computer.

Captions is one app: AI edits, a chat-based editor where you describe changes, AI avatars, subtitles and dubbing.

Captions and translation

  • Auto captions: both. VEED Lite offers several styles; Captions lists subtitles in 91+ languages.
  • Translation: both. On VEED's paid web plans, translation is counted in minutes.
  • Dubbing: Captions lists dubbing into 29 languages. VEED Lite's listing doesn't mention dubbing.
  • Silence and filler-word removal: VEED Lite lists it; the Captions listing doesn't.

VEED's pricing page says paid plans include unlimited subtitle generation with a fair-use limit of 50 hours a month, and that translation is counted against a monthly minute allowance.

Price

  • VEED Lite lists "Mobile PRO" purchases from $2.99 to $51.99, depending on the plan length. Web plans are priced per seat.
  • Captions lists Captions Basic at $5.99 a week, $9.99 a month or $64.99 a year, and Captions Max at $24.99. Its website says there's a free version.

Which to choose

  • Pick VEED if you also edit on a computer, work in a team, or want silences and filler words cut automatically.
  • Pick Captions if you work only on your phone and want AI to do more of the editing, including dubbing.

A third option: CapCap

If what you really need is captions, captions in another language, or a subtitle file, a caption-focused app may fit better than either. CapCap writes captions word by word, lets you edit and style them, translates and dubs, and exports the video or an SRT file.

It doesn't do AI edits, avatars or lip sync, it's iPhone only (iOS 18 or later), and it has no web version. The free plan gives 3 captioned videos a month, up to 3 minutes each, with a small watermark. Pro is $14.99 a month or $59.99 a year.
